Orctober 2026 - Last ones okay?

As all Hallow's Eve draws to a close I want to sit down for one last batch of fanatics. This Orctober has been primarily about throwing back to the past since I have not had the time or motivation to paint a Greenskin. Funnily enough now that the month is almost over I finally get to sit down. Ah well. too late. I have had two sets of metal Fanatics featured already so I feel it is time that we move on to the first plastic fanatics(well not quite, but I will get to that).

When I got my start in the hobby, these were the fanatics on shelves and I still have memories of seeing them, considering buying them. Not because I was super interested in goblins, but because it seemed like such a cheap box. At the time I had very little pocket money and my options were limited. Sadly I never did end up buying them as I tended to spend my money on the famous 8€ unit fillers; But as we know the big Goblin-ing of 2021 was just lying in wait and of course I bought a trio of these Goblins too.

I said before these were the first plastic Fanatics, but that is not quite true. There was a single sprue of a plastic Fanatic produced for Talisman in the 90s. The miniatures was similar in style to the first trio of Fanatics I showed off earlier this month.

When it comes to main line Fanatic sets though by all means this was the first plastic set. The kit came around the same time in 7th edition when they revamped the Night Goblin range following the beauty, the stunner, that was the Battle for Skull Pass starter set. Similar to the 5th/6th edition fanatics, these were a multi part kit. You had a single cast body with the chain or rope. The head and balls were separate pieces and allowed for some customizability. Sadly my trio were pre-assembled or else I would have gone for the sick gagged goblin head with his head exposed and mushrooms growing from behind his forehead. Their poses are incredibly dynamic and thanks to lightweight plastic they have little to no instability unlike their previous iteration. Though incredibly dynamic, they would be one-upped by the loon fanatics from Age of Sigmar almost 10 years later.

In showcasing these guys I am also skipping over a small but notable fanatic which was released as a limited edition blister on release of 7th edition. This kit depicted two night goblin warriors holding a Fanatic at the ready, about to throw him out of their unit and into the enemy ranks. There is even a pot of mushroom brew which in lore causes the fanatics to spin so uncontrollably(and occasionally stops their heart on a bad roll). This little diorama was meant to be used as a unit filler and is such an adorable one at that. Save to say I managed to pick up one along the way, waiting to finish a unit of Night Goblins to add it to.

So what is there left to say, except I just really love Goblins and Goblin Fanatics in particular just hit the right itch. And I think it is because of the Orctober in 2021 where I painted up three trios of differing generations that my love for these insane critters is so strong. I also want to thank all of you who have joined me on this trip down memory lane. It means a lot to me that you read these blogs and I hope they not only entertain you, but infect you with a desire to paint, to play and to express yourself in all the whacko ways that bring us joy in this community. I know it is how I feel when I read hobby blogs.

And while I know it is cliché to ask for these things it would be a great help if you could subscribe to the blog. It is not indexed as of now(thanks google) and I do want more of my 'audience' to connect with me on here rather than Instagram.
