The Jesuit Priest is done

May the holy word protect his soul if not his body
It has been a hot minute since I showed off this guy, but I finally got around to taking proper photos of him. He is is one of the two christian missionaries for my Boxer Rebellion collection, so you can imagine he will suffer quite the gruesome fate. That said I do not have any rules for this collection yet, so he is just a pretty display miniature for now. The miniature came with a miscast eye, so he has received a sculpted eyepatch to cover up his 'injuries'.

This is what they are 'supposed' to look like and I think I managed to differentiate my miniature quite a bit. In part that is probably the paintjob, but the eyepatch also changes the vibes of this guy. These are noticeably older sculpts, but I liked working with this one due to the simplicity of the model. If you are also looking for a random christian missionary to add to your collection, these two might be an option.

Warlords Era Shaolin Monk

After one hell of a heatwave I have finally picked up a brush again. Well I did try and paint during the heatwave, but honestly the paint dried so damn quick I did not want to risk my brushes further. In any case, I think all my energy and desire to paint must have been stored during the heatwave, since the first miniature I decided to paint breezed by in an instant. The Miniature in question is a martial artist by Northstar military figures which I am using as a Shaolin Monk for my assorted collection of Warlords era miniatures. He may also come in handy for my Boxer Rebellion, since the traditional garb of the Shaolin monastery has changed very little between those points in time.

While this guy was a very quick paintjob, I had some trouble with the skin. The issues are simply due to my attempts to emulate the rough sketchy style of artists like Jose Davinci; Obviously they manage to clean it up quite well and their subjects tend to be larger in scale, but I am trying to emulate that on a smaller scale to speed up my painting. With that obviously come some growing pains. That said I still think he turned out great and I should not be overly critical of myself here. I am not 100% sure I like the color of the robe, but I have at least another 8 monks to test out different schemes.
I will try and get out my photo equipment tomorrow and take some proper photos of this guy, the Chindit and the Jesuit Priest. Once that is done I will try and put together some painting recipes for all of those.

Jesuit Priest finished and a little Status Report

Hi, it has been a hot minute since last I posted on here. In short, I procrastinated an important task for far too long so I had to go into a week long intense work mode. Now that I am done with that task I can finally paint again. While I was working on that task I have gotten a handful of new miniatures(I will share some of the goodies soon). Thus I wanted to clear a few of the half finished projects off my table and here is the first of these:

I bought two of the Warlord Games Jesuit Priests a while back to paint up and add as missionaries to my Boxer Rebellion collection. I have no particular games in mind to use them with, but I would like to eventually have a small selection of miniatures to do fun photos with. This one sculpt in particular was showing his age and his left eye was miscast as just a flat area. So I sculpted a little eyepatch and while it ended up a bit too soft I think it turned out fine with paint on it now.
This miniature is not 100% finished yet as it still needs a proper base rim and I will have to make an executive decision about what kind of shrubbery to add to all my Boxer Rebellion bases as they are just bare earth right now. Either way I will try and finish the second priest some time this week if I can muster the motivation, but the recently released Kara Mustafa Pasha and the Janissaries I received from Warlord Games are calling to me, I am looking forward to practicing painting skin that is not pale or rosy white.
